Geothermal plants

A geothermal plant is an advanced system that harnesses the thermal energy naturally produced by the earth's subsurface to heat, cool or generate electricity in an efficient and environmentally sustainable way. A viable alternative to fossil energy, it can be used in a wide variety of applications, from residential homes to large-scale power plants.

Geothermal energy draws on natural heat from the earth’s subsoil, which is constantly regenerated through geological processes. Unlike fossil resources, it does not run out and allows for highly energy-efficient plants.

ENERGY FROM THE EARTH

Geothermal probe systems

A geothermal probe system uses heat from underground for heating or cooling buildings and involves the installation of geothermal probes in the ground, i.e. underground pipes filled with a heat transfer fluid. Independent of the presence or usability of an aquifer, probe systems allow greater control over temperature, as the probes can be placed at different depths in the ground.

With no impact on local water resources, geothermal probes are efficient even where the climate is harsher, as the ground remains relatively warm even when the outside temperature drops. In addition, such systems allow for more flexible building design as they do not require wells or access to groundwater.
